about

This is a quick skit that is staged in order to explain the origin of our name. The track has the band overdubbed a few times pretending to be at a lively party. Matt and Julie have a conversation about feeling down sometimes and how going to an outwash plain can inspire you to do the best you can with what you've been given. Kinda cheesy, but effective in describing what an outwash plain is. The original members of Outwash Plain (Julie, Brian, Ruth and Matt) all came together at Michigan Tech students in Natural Resources. While attending Fall Camp in Alberta, MI the four started playing music and performed the next semester back in Houghton. The Fall Camp facility is adjacent to the Baraga Plains, which is a landform known as an outwash plain. (See the wikipedia definition for more details). When we needed to choose a name, Outwash Plain was the one we all liked the most. It is often said that choosing a band name as a group is the most difficult part of forming a band.
An additional note about the band is that Ruth Bennett (original member) was gone to Honduras for masters field work when the recording was done. Unfortunately she was not featured on the album but was surely missed!
