The oldest orignal of Matt's on the album, this song has been kickin' around for over ten years. Formerly named "Ballad of the Keweenaw" it was mispoken in the studio while recording and "Battle" sounded more appropriate for the lyrics of the song. The theme of the song is a fictitious outlaw running from the sheriff. With each verse, the outlaw gets further north in the Keweenaw Penninsula, starting at the lift bridge in Houghton, then to Cliff Drive and finally near Bete Gris. TJ says, "this song just makes me want to dance!"
